Our hotel for 7 nights is the boutique Art Hotel ideally located in the prestigious La Recoleta area. The aptly named hotel has an impressive gallery of exhibits by acclaimed Argentine artists. Art immersion begins at your bedside!

Meet in hotel lobby at 2:00 p.m. A local historian from the University of BA is your guide for a tour featuring history, culture and architecture. “Images of Buenos Aires” includes El Centro, Plaza de Mayo, gentrified Puerto Madera , the new Faena Art District and hip Hotel Faena + Universe by Argentina fashion impresario Alan Faena and French architect Philippe Starck.
Welcome Dinner at a typical parrilla.
Discover contemporary Argentina artists on an art encounter at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. After lunch an expert from the University of BA leads a walking tour of La Recoleta, ending at Eva Peron’s final resting place, the Cementerio de la Recoleta (said to be the most expensive real estate in town). Afterwards, explore La Feria de Plaza Francia, the city’s largest artisan fair. Evening at leisure to sample one of BA’s outstanding restaurants.
The city and tango are inseparable! Today’s tour focuses on the “Origins of Tango” in the neighborhoods where it was born. En route listen to the music and lyrics of tango poetics. Linger in San Telmo to explore the bustling Sunday antique fair. Lunch in the colorful la Boca district, then wander through the Vuelta de Rocha Handicrafts Market, a showcase for local artists. Stop at Carlos Gardel House and Museum, dedicated to the godfather of tango. Duck into trendy art galleries and unique art spaces before returning to the hotel.
This evening you may be inspired to take in a “milonga” (dance hall) – and try the tango yourself.
Palermo is subdivided into districts, each with its own flavor: Soho, Hollywood, Chico, Viejo. The city’s largest barrio is the epicenter of BA’s design revolution. Here cafe culture is elevated to a high art.
Palermo is known for its chic boutiques, minimal lofts, daring restaurants, elegant embassies and the gleaming new MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires).We spend the day in Palermo exploring local haunts, ending with an analysis of the contemporary art scene at MALBA. Evening free to dine in Palermo at a restaurant of your choice.
Chicago gallery dealer Martha’s Schneider represents Argentina artists and she has put us in touch with with dealers, collectors and artists who open their doors to us today. Options this evening include: Rojo Tango, BA’s most glamorous dinner and dance show at the Faena Hotel.
Today, choose one or both tours to places of special historic interest. A morning tour takes us to the traditional Jewish neighborhood called “Once”. The BA Jewish community is one of the largest in the world and its heritage remains very much preserved. Visit outstanding Ashkenazi and Sephardic temples and the Institute of Jewish Studies to understand the significance of the Jewish experience in BA.
Head to La Plata on our afternoon architecture tour. La Plata is a separate city of “resplendent modernity”, created by a team of architects and planners from the dust of semi-arid desert. The perfect geometry makes La Plata a beautiful city of palatial estates on a harmonious grid. A highlight is the only building Le Corbusier designed in Latin America.
Today we find authentic scenes of traditional life in the pampas on our full day excursion to San Antonio de Areco. The town represents the legend of the gaucho (Argentinian cowboy). It is also famous for its silversmiths who we visit at the Centro Cultural y Taller Draghi. Spend the afternoon at an elegant historic estancia (ranch).Enjoy an exquisite asado lunch and typical countryside tea. Horseback riding, walks and swimming are available. Enjoy an afternoon of leisure before returning to Buenos Aries. Night owls may want to take in a final tango show or dance club.
Day at leisure for shopping until your flights home.

Important Information:
1. You must be an Art Encounter member.
2. Space is limited. Reservations on a first come basis. A non refundable $500.deposit reserves your space. Non refundable payment in full is due June 30.2008. We strongly recommend trip insurance.

Accommodations:
The Art Hotel is unique. Friends traveling together can share space by requesting interconnecting rooms (each with a private bath).These rooms have a queen bed in one room and twin beds in the other smaller room. This room configuration is limited to the first 8 people who request double occupancy. Other rooms contain one king bed for couples. Upgrades to king bed rooms with balcony are available for $255. Single accommodations are in “small and cozy rooms” with a double bed and private bath. There is no charge for a single supplement unless an upgrade is requested. Charge to upgrade single room to interior king bedroom for single use is $285. Please state your preference at time of deposit.
5. $400 of the trip cost is tax deductible for educational purposes as provided by law. Art Encounter is a 501 (c) (3) organization.
6. Jewish Buenos Aries tour is 3 hours-cost $23. La Plata tour is 5 hours-cost $40. Select one or both when you register. Each tour requires a minimum of 10 people and includes transportation.
