Initiated in fall 2007, Artistic Journeys is an art bookmaking project for Evanton adults studying English as a Second Language. Participants improve English skills through handmade artists’ books. After viewing examples of artist's books, participanst use collage materials to create their own book that represens their cultural history and journey to America.
Designed to foster a love of reading, we have conducted this program for immigrant families at locations including Evanston District #65 Family Center. Our teaching artists read picture books to the families and exhibit original art. The stories and images serve as inspiration for art projects. Families work together to explore a variety of art materials.
