Gallery Walk Schedule for SPRING 2010

RIVER NORTH GALLERIES                                                   MARCH 20
Discover the artist as magician at JUDY SASLOW GALLERY with a three person exhibit based on “Magical Thinking.”  When speaking to strangers on the phone, Frank Paluch, Director of Perimeter Gallery imagines the person at the other end through small drawings.  Later he converts the drawings into ceramic sculptures.  Japanese born painter Bernadette Jiyong Frank creates magic in large colorful oils that gently vibrate with optical illusions.  Jordan Scott uses a labor intensive process of transforming simple materials such as postage stamps into large scale works that look like fiber.  At CATHERINE EDELMAN GALLERY, we’ll view “Seen and Unseen”, evocative photographs by Keith Carter.  Next at PERIMETER GALLERY, we’ll view sculptural wall pieces by Nathan Slate Joseph who creates magic by putting pure pigment on steel and exposing it to weather.
MEET at Judy Saslow Gallery, 300 West Superior St., Chicago

WEST LOOP GALLERIES AND ART STUDIO                     JUNE 12
Explore several galleries on West Fulton Market today beginning with playful installations by Carson Fox at LINDA WARREN GALLERY Comprised of colorful imaginative flowers cast in plastic, and suspended on heavy pins, the artworks evoke varying emotions.   Next at EC GALLERY, we’ll view paintings by Seattle artist Junko Yamamoto who combines images from her childhood in Japan with abstract meditative layers of paint.  We’ll conclude with the unique PETER MARS GALLERY.  An art pioneer in the neighborhood, Peter has shown his own and other artists’ work since 1988.  After discussing the focus of the gallery, we’ll visit Mars’ studio to see how the artist “fuses and confuses the traditional distinctions between high culture and low art.”  Participants may want to stay for lunch at Jupiter Coffee Shop in the same building.
MEET at Linda Warren Gallery, 1052 West Fulton Market, Chicago
