Schedule for FALL 2011

RIVER NORTH PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERIES          SATURDAY   OCTOBER 1
Investigate cutting edge and vintage photography at three galleries specializing in the medium.  At Martha Schneider Gallery, view Maria Martinez-Canes who uses experimental techniques to create “Tetralogy.”.  The four part autobiographical series of works captures “false memories” in which she wonders what life would be like if her family hadn’t emigrated from Cuba when the artist was a child.  Next, at Catherine Edelman Gallery, we’ll discuss Kelli Connell’s “Double Life” images.  Seemingly romantic and nostalgic, they question issues of identity.  Then, at the Stephen Daiter Gallery, we’ll see vintage and experimental photographs.

Meet at 230 W. Superior St., Chicago   (entrance on Franklin St.)
SMART MUSEUM of ART, The Univ. of Chicago SATURDAY  DECEMBER 3
Join us to explore Vision and Communism, images of survival and suffering by the postwar artist and designer Victor Koretsky (1909–1998).  This powerful artist articulated a Communist vision of the world utterly unlike that of conventional propaganda.  We’ll compare his work to the approved soviet propaganda designs of Gustav Klucis and Valentina Kulagina, also on exhibit, along with their preparatory sketches and collages.  The tour ends with selected works from the museum’s permanent collection created in the same time period.  Free parking in garage 1 block north.

Meet at 5550 S. Greenwood Ave., Chicago

JOHN HANCOCK BUILDING GALLERIES      SATURDAY  JANUARY 14
Stay warm as we visit 3 galleries on the same floor, each with a different focus.  We begin at Richard Gray Gallery, Chicago’s premier space for seeing museum quality modern and contemporary masters such as David Hockney, Jim Dine, Jaume Plensa, Picasso and Matisse.  Next, visit Valerie Carberry Gallery which specializes in mid-twentieth century works as well as work by a few selected contemporary artists.  We’ll end the morning at the KMV Gallery, featuring major international artists including Fernando Botero, Anish Kapoor, Wolf Kahn and Helen Frankenthaler.

Meet at 875 North Michigan Ave., Suite 2503 Chicago

Advanced registration is preferred.
