Gallery Walk Schedule for Spring 2008

MARCH 15: THE ART CENTER OF HIGHLAND PARK
Sculpted Paintings: Works by Joanna Pinsky, Michelle Stone and Jill King
Three artists discuss their different approaches to shaping paint.  Joanna develops “flexible installations” of very flat shaped paintings that visually interact and create illusions of depth; Michelle explores the human condition by building up layers of paint which become relief sculpture.  Jill investigates the effects of painted light on heavily detailed and carved painted surfaces.  After the discussion, we will view Domestic Antecedents, installations by Latino artists.  Refreshments will be served.
1957 Sheridan Rd., Highland Park

MAY 10, RHONA HOFFMAN GALLERY
On this River West tour, discover Chris Dorland, a “hot” young New York artist painting acidic neon-color images of Utopian architecture. Then at Monique Meloche Gallery, see fascinating embroidered paintings incorporating text by Karen Reimer.  At Flatfilegalleries,  view Michiko Itatani’s large scale paintings, Cosmos II, with a theme of libraries in an extraterrestrial space.  The tour ends at Linda Warren Gallery with a Carson Fox wall installation of flowers created with resin, steel pins and glitter.

JUNE 7, RUSSEL BOWMAN ART ADVISORY
See museum-quality works in a gallery owned by the former director of the Milwaukee Museum where you will return to the sixties with works by the Chicago Imagists.  Next, delve into art that inspired the Imagists as we view works by “outsider” artists at Judy Saslow Gallery.   See works by La Tinaia, a group of artists who were patients in a Parisian mental hospital.  Discuss French artist Gerard Cambon’s mixed media assemblages that speak to human struggle.  The tour ends with a discussion of art glass at Marx-Saunders and Habitat Galleries.
