Studio Tour: James Mesple, May 1

Delve into mythological archetypes in a contemporary context in this painter’s large westside studio and home. In large scale oil paintings, prints and drawings, James develops narratives with images from mythology and Chicago as well as from objects found in his home. Other sources of inspiration include poetry and stories his Osage grandfather told him.. His personal objects include a large collection of antique woodwinds and natural objects as well as a collection of works by other artists. James will talk about his technique of combining oil and tempera which he learned from Thomas Hart Benton.
