THOMAS MASTERS GALLERY
Art Encounter members are invited to enjoy refreshments as we investigate work by New York artist Hunt Slonum in several rooms of this spacious Old Town gallery.  Collected by major international museums including the Metropolitan and the Guggenheim, the artist portrays familiar subject matter in unexpected ways. He is best known for his paintings of tropical birds based on a personal aviary in which he keeps about 100 live birds of various species.  Gallery owners Thomas and Agnieska Masters bring their respective backgrounds of song writing, painting and art history to the gallery.

NEXT AND ART CHICAGO 2010                                        SATURDAY   MAY 1
There’s so much to see at these major international art expositions on two floors of the Merchandise Mart that it’s easy to get lost.  Let Art Encounter help you make sense of it all as we view memorable installations by commercial and non-commercial spaces at the Next show and works by major artists from around the world at Art Chicago. After the tour, you might want to stay for lunch at one of the many dining areas within the shows and spend the day with art.  Space limited to 18. 
Please register by April 26 as we must buy tickets in advance.

OPEN HOUSE AND ART & CRAFT SALE                        SUNDAY  JUNE 6
PETER VALE
Visit this gallery owner’s charming home and garden in Old Town.  Enjoy refreshments as you view paintings, sculpture and ceramics on the top two floors.  Works by three artists will be on sale downstairs including Peter Vale’s functional and sculptural ceramics, Virginia Vale’s jewelry and Judy Petaque’s intricate collages and mixed media masks.  A percentage of the sales will go towards Art Encounter’s inner-city school programs.

CRAB TREE FARM                                                                SATURDAY JUNE 26
Join us to see this fascinating collection and historic site that can only be visited with non-profit arts organizations. We are currently planning a tour to this Lake Bluff working farm, housing an extensive collection of English and American Arts & Crafts furniture and decorative arts.  The buildings were designed by noted Chicago architect Solon Spencer Beman (designer of the Pullman Village) in 1910 and include a massive barn and clock tower flanked by four buildings and two silos.  Arranged around a court and reflective pool, the buildings provide 20,000 sq. feet of space where the collections are beautifully displayed.
