Tactile Art for Visually Impaired and Blind

tactile art

Initiated in 1997, our tactile art programs offer inclusive learning experiences about art for the visually impaired/blind community. Since very few art institutions and organizations offer programming that provides meaningfu, fully inclusive art education for the visually impaired, there is a strong need to make this outreach a reality.

Current programs

Can You Feel Me? A new program for the blind and visually impaired
We have received grants from Irwin Andrew Porter Foundation and McDougal Littell to initiate a new tactile art project for people with vision impairment or blindness. The program series, developed by Joanna Pinsky and Marcy Sperry, includes a tactile exploration of sculpture and textured wall pieces, and culminates with a mural project containing elements of touch, sound and smell. The series will take place at the Friedman Home in Chicago and at the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind beginning spring 2007.
