Join us for a bus tour to the Rebuild Foundation projects of renowned Chicago artist, urban planner and Wall Street Journal’s 2012 “Innovator of the Year”, Theaster Gates. We’ll see how his project’s buildings reflect his creative reuse of abandoned spaces and materials, and how they are contributing to the revitalization of this struggling neighborhood. Lunch takes place at Gates’ designed restaurant and neighborhood hot spot, Currency Exchange Café. We will also peruse the expansive African American art collection of Change Illinois Executive Director Ra Joy and his wife, Falona, in their lovely South Side home, and visit the South Side Community Art Center.
